Text: Genesis 28:20-22...

"And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat. And raiment to put on, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace: then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee."

Elder Connail Johnson

Was Jacob trying to bargain with God? Jacob had cheated his brother out of his birth-right & was now in

fear and distress; and it is seasonable to make vows in times of trouble, or when we are in pursuit of any special mercy. In verses 12-14, Jacob had a gracious visit from heaven. God had renewed his covenant with him and blessed him with assurance. When God ratifies his promises to us, it is proper for us to repeat & execute our promises to him. Jacob was not bargaining with God, but pledging his future to God. If God has restored & redeemed you, and promised you a blessing...step out and FAITH-PLEDGE your future, be consistent and execute your promise towards Him....................
